We are looking to have rounded edges on the interior window openings in our house, kind of an adobe feel, and skip the wooden casings. However, although I know these types of moldings for drywall applications exist, I don't know much about them. I was just about to order our windows with a 5" jamb to fit our stress-skin panel walls (4 1/2" + 1/2" drywall, which would bring the windows flush to the interior walls. Is this going to cause a problem with the rounded corner moldings on the walls? Should the windows be recessed a bit? Does anybody have any idea what I'm talking about?
Thanks.
*If the windows are installed flush to the inside of the wall cavity there would not be any room for any type of drywall corner bead. I am aware of 3 types of bullnose corners. Plastic, galvanized metal and aluminum with the tape pre-fused over the corner. Our finishers prefer the latter. When using bullnose corners the drywall should be held back 1/2" at the outside corners. Make sure you take into account that your trim man will want more money to make the 2 extra cuts in the base and crown at every outside corner.
*Mark,You could spec a reg. jamb thickness and return the drywall with the bn corner to the jamb. Leave a little reveal on the jamb, hold the drywall return an 1/8th to 3/16th short of the jamb and L-bead it there. The L-bead will give you a crisp edge to mud to. Use tear-away L-bead and it'll keep the jamb clean till you tear-away. Finish any gap with a good grade of caulk. Best of luck.
