Has anyone used a drywall pneumatic coil nailer to hang rock? Somethng similar to a Senco SCN40DW Drywall Coil Nailer.

I have . It sucks big time .
I bought a Duraspin Senco cordless for a job we just completed, and I thought it was terrific.
However, I am a sometime rocker, which is why I think I liked it. I worked next to a guy who does this all the time. He uses a conventional gun (right hand) with a handful of screws in the other. He kept the trigger down and fed the screws with his left hand -- and I couldn't keep up with him.
Nik, are you talkin about a coil nailer or a screw gun? The poster is talking about a coil nailer .

The Duraspin I spoke of uses strips of collated screws -- I don't know how many screws per strip, but the strips are maybe 18" long. They have a corded gun that uses the same strips. The counter sink depth can be set, so you can use either for drywall, decking or whatever. I would, however, imagine that my main point with the Duraspin would hold true with a coil nailer as well -- that an experienced rocker can shoot screws just as fast with a conventional DW gun, and maybe faster.
Id love to have your machine .
But a nail gun is a different animal for drywall .

You're absolutely right.I saw "nailer" but assumed the poster meant screws.I didn't know such a machine existed. Besides, are there still a lot of rockers who would use nails instead of screws?

no, nail guns suck, screw guns rock
A friend of mine does commercial finish work.He helped me on a basement and I asked him about the automatic feed screw guns.He has one and says that in the right type of job it works, but more often than not a plain gun and screws are faster.
