Hello Drywalling Pros,
I have had problems with “all purpose joint compound” ready -mixed.
When I apply it, many tiny bubbles appear. did I say many? It has happened more than I care to say and from different pails. So I bet it’s me. What the heck m I doing wrong? Please help.
I’m thinking i’m not stirring it enough 0r too much.
cheers

bobby, are these bubbles appearing (in a patch) over a painted wall? or maybe High speed mixing?

calvin,
yes it's happening over patches on painted walls. tiny bubbles, in the wall, don't make me happy! Pock's are a good description. I stir by hand, but maybe to fast. I'll try the soap.
Thanks, lunch is on me tomorrow

bobby, over paint, it's something to expect. The water needs to drive off at the surface. Knock off the nubs, the next coat should fill the holes. I've had a bit of better luck using the dry bagged mixes like durabond or easysand first coat. Remodeling Contractor just outside the Glass City.

stir it well...put it on your hawk and remix it there with your knife.
Shouldn't be a problem....even add some dishsoap to the mix....just a little.
Be well

Yep, I've had the same problem.
If its in your first two courses, it shouldn't matter, as its going to be covered anyway. But if you're using GP compound as your top coat.....I've found that I can reduce the bubble holes by adding a bit more water before stirring (never tried soap) so its a bit more runny (and slides off the hawk and knife a lot easier too), and when applied with the wide knife, go over it again, except more slowly. I've found this removes most bubble holes.
Ain't a drywall pro...but if I keep doin what I've been doin, I will be!

I thought my bubbles came because the 5 gallon bucket was rolling around in the back of my truck.
Bubbles are caused by over mixing and mixing at a high speed.
Add a little water and mix it at a slower speed, then as said before, work it with your knife on the hawk. This will make a nice, creamy, workable mixture. If mixed and applied properly, there should be no tiny bubbles in your applications.
