Drywall for detatched garage in Florida
Hello all!
I’m getting ready to drywall a detached garage on my property in Florida. For the forseable future, the garage will not be conditioned. Since I live in such I humid area, I thought about using green board instead of regular drywall. Is there any advantage to this? Are there any good alternatives to drywall that would work well in a garage-type environment?
Thanks!
Andy

There are other options.
Pardon me, but I've never lived anywhere tropical. Why would you ever want to air condition a garage? Sounds rather prodigal.
>> Why would you ever want to air condition a garage?Depends on how much time you spend there and to a lesser extent on how strenuous your activities. If the garage was also a shop, or if I did any significant work on my own vehicles, I'd certainly want to be able to cool the shop, even if I didn't run the AC 24/7.
Those are great options. I don't require any additional wind-load measures on the interior of the structure, so that isn't a concern (Buildings in my area have to be engineered for a 140mph wind load)
As for A/C in the garage, it's more common that you might think down here. So are dehumidifiers, as the humidity is brutal in the summertime.
I like the hardie panel suggestion the best. The exterior has hardie lap-siding, which I've been very happy with.
Thanks again!
I have been told that the way to go is to use 'X-type', firecode' rated drywall as it is much stiffer and resistant to sagging than the regular stuff. This stuff has glass fibers which makes it stiffer, stronger and more fire resistant. The later two being secondary considerations but still a nice bonus. Especially in a garage.
