I have been trying to think of a neat way to store drywall knives that allow them to air dry, sharp edge protected, room for the pan & tape & compact, user friendly, etc. I’m getting tired frankly of my folded over carpet scrap with a rubber wrap.
Has anybody had a stroke of genius on this?
Thanks in advance

Saw one drywall man who used a stack of, looked like about 2", of corrugated cardboard sandwiched between similarly sized hardboard leaves. Around this a couple of small bungie cords was added to maintain pressure. This he sprayed heavily with WD-40 or similar.
Knives were cleaned, dried and the blades inserted into the stack of cardboard with handles sticking out. He had about 8 knives of different sizes stuffed in. Kept the knives organized, clean and rust free. I remember it because it looked like a nice idea.
I keep mine in an old small suitcase with bands on the inside for holding them down.

What about gluing up a sandwhich (Dagwood sandwhich?) of plywood? 3/4" plywood rectangles about 14" x 5" and 1/8" plywood U-shapes around 3 sides of the perimeter of the 14"x5" pieces. Leaving a 1/8" slot on the top open for each knife. Make it as many layers thick as needed. And use 1/2" or two 3/4" or whatever is needed to accomodate the thickness of the handes. Or make it longer than 14" so the handles can be off-set.
Before assembly drill a bunch of large holes in the 3/4" plywood for air circulation.
Or leave it open on the bottom - no U-shapes, just two sides. Then water can drip out the bottom and there's a bit more air circulation.
Thanks for the ideas. I'm a little lazy--I was wanting a picture so I didn't have to even think--just copy. I figured there might be a better product than wood since it would tend to hold the moisture, but I haven't come up with any ideas better than those listed yet.
