Hey,
What precautions should I take when removing damp and black moldy drywall. It’s in a garage on the wall with the overhead doors.
I don’t know/think I am allergic to it.
Bleach?
Mask?
etc?
Thanx!

Listeners write in about haunted pipes and building-science tomes, and they ask questions about roof venting and roof leaks.

Yeah, good call.
I guess I'll be getting some of them long rubber gloves, some bleach and a tyvek suit, I have masks in the van. It doesn't really amount to a large quantity of drywall, but the damn garage overhead doors are attached through the rock, so it will be a pain, plus a hazard.

I have torn out acres of this stuff in New Orleans.
Our crews looked like (were) hazmat teams - Tyvek suits, industrial respirators with filter cartridges rated for mold spores, goggles, gloves.
All this may be overkill since your DW was not soaked in a witch's brew of sewage, decaying animals, and flood waters for days.
Not a mold remediation expert, but I suspect in your case, a decent mask and gloves should be sufficient. Bleach will kill the remaining mold on the studs. Insulation will probably need to go also.
Let everything dry out well before replacing insulation and DW. Mold does not live well without moisture.

Never underestimate the value of a sharp pencil or good light.
Did the job today. Bleached it yesterday. Wasn't so bad; of course, it was a small job. 4-1/2 hrs......done. Thanks for the help, all.
