I am trying to find some info on materials and methods for drywall installation in Italy. I will be there this August, and will be installing drywall over a concrete substrate. Are powder actuated fasteners available there? Are screws available? If so, what is their configuration? How about tool rentals? (shipping tools would be very expensive) I have contacted USG, but I have not gotten any response from their Italian sales office. I both speak and read Italian, so resources in that language would also be helpful. I had posted this topic a few weeks ago, but the system melted down a day later, so I got only one response. Any info. would be appreciated. Thanks.

I'm not going to be much help. But I expect that plastering is much more popular in Italy than drywall. Try the backdoor approach. Find a plastering website in Italy and ask about drywall maybe?
Or find a big city in the US and call a drywall contractor with an italian name from the yellow pages and quiz them. Maybe they know something or someone.
Just an idea off the top of the head.

This may not be anything you haven't already tried: Go into your web browser preferences and either add Italian under Languages or temporarily delete English and add Italian. Then go to your favorite search engine and start with whatever the word for drywall is in Italian. If you don't get enough, I'm with Gary, try plaster variations. I personally like Metacrawler as they use many of the other search engines and often give more results than any single search engine. They are at http://www.go2net.com/search.html

If you go to:
http://www.twics.com/~takakuwa/search/
and then click Italy in the left hand frame, you will get a list of Italian search engines.

*I've yet to visit a country where the power tools are as good or as cheap as they are in the US. But I've also been hassled for bringing in "tools of trade" without the appropriate work permit. And there's that 120/220v problem. Do you need to declare powder actuated tools and charges to the airline as if they were guns and ammo? I would. But will it be a hassle to get it out of hock at the other end? Paying excess baggage fees is almost always cheaper than airfeighting. Cheaper still: give the skycap a huge tip. If you'll be working with any other tradesmen, they might be a market for power tools when you're done.
