Hi,
I have a half-bath and wanted to install an exhaust fan to handle “odors,” if you know what I mean. No shower or bath, so no humidity. I saw a Nutone Model 684NT online and it says it’s ductless. I know these are a big mistake for high-humidity situations, but for an application like mine, would this work okay? Does the fan just exhaust the air into the bay of the ceiling joist? I’m not crazy about putting a hole in the side of the house since it’s a funky, highly textured stucco that will be hard to weatherize if a duct is installed. Any advice? Thanks.

Save yoourself a bunch of bucks...place a little box of matches & a decorative ashtray on some convenient horizontal surface...emit odor, light match...presto, odor is gone!

A very cleaver yet simple solution to an otherwise awkward situation!
But, dont try that on an airplane, heard a report about a week ago where a woman who had a problem with methane gas deciding to do just as you suggested and they had to land the plane due to the uneasy fillings of some of the other passangers.
Apparently the passangers were a little scared with the smell of "burning gasses" so the pilot was forced to land the plane. Not a comfortable position for the woman either!
I dont think they charged the woman with anything, the embaressment alone was probably all the punishment she needed!

They let her get on the plane with matches in the first place???
Yea, security was a little lax that day!

I know that a recirculating hood vent in a kitchen has a charcoal filter for the odors. Just a thought in terms of filtering smells.

I doubt something like this would be effective in my bathroom.
