Go ahead. I deserve it.
I’ve sworn that I’d never shop at Home Depot again for anything other than items stocked in store. And that if a homeowner requests an item available through HD, I would refuse to get involved with purchasing, and that materials were to be on site before I would agree to a start date. And that I would refuse to warrantee the installation of any such product.
But did I keep to my word?
NOOOOOOOOOOOO!
I have a repeat customer…..kindly older woman…..who I’ve done several projects for in the past. Some large…most, minor repairs and maintenance type jobs. She trusts no one but me. Pays on time. Willing to wait for my schedule to allow. Passes my name out often.
Last Friday I went to look at some minor projects she wanted done. The biggest being patching the laminate kitchen flooring behind the new stove. Floor was existing when she moved in last summer. The house contained no left-overs from the installation. Just a small piece of scrap that she found in a closet. She told me that she didn’t know the manufacturer, but the previous home owner told her Home Depot had done the install.
I swung by HD after meeting with her to try and find a readily available match. (HA! HA! HA!) Nothing in stock close enough. Found a sample board by Mohawk with the exact flooring. Special Order. Dealt with one of the yahoos in flooring, who told me it would take about a week. Paid my 95 cents plus tax ($1.03) to take sample out of store to have aproved by homeowner. went by her house this morning….got her exhuberant approval, and headed back to HD to order one stinkin’ box.
Guess what.
Discontinued.
Thanks to the incompotent moron at HD, I have now wasted aprox. 3 hrs. tracking down and getting approval on a flooring that doesn’t exist.
I can’t charge for that.
NEVER AGAIN!
I SWEAR!

Think of how bad it could have been - you could have actually special ordered something from HD. That would turn out much worse.

Life is not a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in a pretty and well preserved body, but rather to skid in broadside, thoroughly used up, totally worn out, and loudly proclaiming

What are you beeching about?
Only took you twice to HD to find out you couldn't get it from HD.
You're still at least 3, maybe 4 trips ahead.

So now you can sell her a whole new floor and make up for it.
