Trying to control dust on a renovation. I’m looking for two ideas or products. 1) to control dust from moving from one room to another. Something more sophisticated or durable than a piece of plastic drop cloth, maybe something with velcro? 2) a dust mat which would suck up dust off shoes. Something like a giant tack cloth. Any ideas?

Steve:
Tool Crib (I think) makes a portable plastic wall system for dust control. Available thru them or Amazon.
Also, same place has a clever, inexpensive drywall sanding head for your shop-vac that water-prefilters the drywall dust before it clogs the filter. Works well.
I just used used the usual jury-rig plastic sheeting with very good results, but I stuck a shop air-cleaner in the workspace. Most of the catalogues have them, they are basically furnace blowers that recirculate the air through a set of filters. This caught the bulk of the residual dust before it got out of the workspace.
They do make sticky mats for cleaning shoes, but you'ld have to look to industrial supply houses for them. They use them in all kinds of clean-room applications. Might be expensive.
