DW = DISHWASHER – hookup to GD??
The D/W got the new garbage disposal installed for Christmas (and a few other things). Christmas Morning beneath the sink. Priceless.
Whoever did this ran 1/2 copper for the dishwasher discharge line and framused it into the port on the disposal.
Seems a bit small for a discharge line, but no problems over the years. Galvanic corrosion at the end of the copper, however. Time for a change.
They did it with a little piece of hose and some CU bits and assorted hose clamps into one of those one widget fits all rubber fittings.
I can duplicate the framus tomorrow when I can reach a big box. (We are a bit shy on DW hose with 5/8 ID around here. Checked the attic. Smaller, bigger = we got it.)
Should I duplicate the framus? I believe the usual method is to run DW hose, but I don’t want to pull out the DW. It ain’t broke, but I can change that.
Anyone have good, servicable workarounds for this?
@ Sweat on the proper fitting up the line a bit and run DW hose from it to the nipple on the disposal?
@ ???
@ Avoid the GD port and dump it into the main waste line?
Thanks to a great suggestion in Rex Cauldwell’s Remodel Plumbing (a Taunton publication – plug), the ABS end of things was done with 1.5″ ABS, a P trap with clean out and Fernco couplings. No more of those sleezy, overpriced 1.25″ white plastic bits with endless compression fittings.
Has a nice, heavy duty industrial look. Problems? Slip the hose clamps, pull the whole fitting and have at.

If you switch to using a wye fitting on your tailpiece (which seems to be the prefered method around here), don't forget to plug the old opening in garbage disposal, if you have knocked out the plug. I can't tell from your description if you have or not.
Given a corriosion problem, I probably would go for the tailpiece discharge modification. Some hose clamps and a piece of rubber discharge should be all you need, along with the fitting.
Rather like the idea of discharging into the tail piece. Let me see if I have room under there.
I have knocked out the plug - nice thing to remember. Appreciate the reminder.
