Are any of you breaktimers hip to the Dyson vacuum for the house? I know it’s difficult to get excited about vacuum sweeper, but we’ve got two dogs, and that purple vac is AWESOME. If anyone knows what I’m talking about, why don’t those guys creat a shopvac?

Interesting, Consumer reports rated the Dyson kinda low. My daughter loves hers! The Hoover Windtunnel was #1.

I think consumer reports slants twords price vs quality.... with the dyson being a very expensive vac that dose suck better than others but once the bean counters get to it CR thinks its overpriced. the windtunnel could probably be discribed better as "best value"

I have 2 Dyson's. One for home, and one for work. I have to say that I'm not impressed. For $400 each I expect it to work 5 times better than the $69 vacuum it replaced, and it doesn't. It works, but so did the old one.
Why are vacs so expensive? If I was designing one it would have an induction motor and be durable and non clogging. I think I could make one better than any one available, and no more expensive either.
If you build it, they will come.
I'll buy the first one.
The heck, you say?
You get the second. I'm keeping the first one myself. No more screaming banshees of a vacuum sweeper. If I even touch mine, my 2 dogs run off in fear of the ear splitting noise.
We have a dyson too and we love it- my house has never felt cleaner. Our old Eureka vaccum was lousy. I also read that Fein is the best on shop vacs.
love my Fein,.....Jake Gulick

Dyson is just using a cyclonic separator, as has been used in dust collectors since the 1920's. For a shop vac, a better design can be had by adapting a dust collecting cyclone. These guys have the best:

I'm using my shop vac -Fein turbo vac II- also at home for general vacuuming and especially for removing the dog hair. Due to the low noise level you can listen to music while doing so. After 20 years of working on job sites and working with a variety of shop vacs the Fein product is the best choice for me.
Me too...love my Fein...BUT...it seems So nice I hate to spoil it with a bunch of crap inside it, LOL!
I use an intermediate chip container to keep the heavy stuff out.Jake Gulick
