I’ve got a rental house in a summer resort area and it’s got a propane fireplace. I can’t think of the brand offhand but it’s kind of a pain to light when you want to turn it on.
The house occasionally gets rented out on the off season and invariably, the renters have trouble lighting the fireplace.
It’s the type of thing that you have to turn and hold in a valve then press the little igniter button all the while holding in the valve for another minute until the thermocouple allows the gas to flow to the “log” burners. You have to do all this while lying on the floor in front of the fireplace. Not exactly the most ergonomic thing.
I’ve seen gas fireplaces that have a switch on the wall or even a remote. Anyone have any experience with these things? I’d rather not have a pilot burning all the time because the house can go for weeks or even months between renters. Any specific brands anyone can think of? Thanks

I never had a problem with character,
people've been telling me I was one ever since I was a kid.
i have a gas fireplace that sounds like iy works the same way. does have a remote to turn it off and on,but the pilot has to be on. i have seen the ones with the switch,i may be wrong but i think some of them have a standing pilot and all they are doing is turning the gas valve on and it's lit. i'm sure someone makes a electronic ignition like a furnace but i have no info about them.
you say this is a summer resort,in a cool climate where the fireplace needs to be on? i have a place at the lake average summer temp is 75night 95 in the day. it has a fireplace. the management company and i have a fued over this. the central air turns on in late may and runs till sept.. i don't want the fireplace running putting out heat, and sucking air up the chimminey,so i screwed the damper shut, put in fake logs and posted a note that the flue is bad,if you light a fire and it burns down they are responsable.your at the lake,it's summer, you don't need no friggin fireplace. oh the managements concern, they sell the fake logs at a profit of about 3 bucks each. larry
