I dont know if there is an easier way to do it but this way is pretty simple if you dont mind doing a little math.
Easy formula (a squared plus b squared) /2a. A is how far your coming down the side of your opening b is half the width. the answer is the radius of the circle.
Snap a line on a big floor and snap another perpendicular to it. Lay half inch ply on the second line the width of your opening. Hook of the ply and come down the radius and draw a small arch, couple inches. then hold on the first line and pull half the opening size and draw another small one. You should get a drunk looking x, And that is where you put your eight penny.
then mark the points where the edge of opening hits the line. make sure these three points are the same from the nail, alot off, recheck your lines for square and your meausurements, a little off, tap the nail head around. Draw that line and youve got your pattern. Cut it out and trace it and youve got two sides to put blocks into to get a nice strong arch.
Take it easy.
