Ok, I got a funky water supply from the KY river. One terlet in the house, gets a nasty scum in the bowl that is mineral or iron in nature.
We can clean it and within a day or so, it begins again. I do have this one hooked up with hot water for the sweaty tank in summer syndrome, so maybe that contributes.
We don’t drink the city water, and I’ve yet to install the Whole House sediment filter…the water heater gets flushed once a yr. On my second set of elements in 7 yrs.
Question I have is, what is one the better bowl inserts / cleaners that don’t make blue water? The lid is always down and the door almost always closed, so no dogs drinking outta it.
Oh, pipe is poly from the meter, and copper after it enters the house..new in 04. Cold water terlet upstairs with almost the same usage hasn’t the same problem as bad.

Sphere: Clorox makes a very high chlorine tablet about the size of a hockey puck to plop into the tank. No color. Just gives a faint chlorine odor. Works! BTW: don't touch them w/ bare hands while opening pkg to insert into tank.

Thats what I'm talking, something like that. We've never used anything cuz of pets, but this is getting old scrubbing the bowl almost daily.I recall seeing a stickum under the rim type, I had concern about the float and stuff in the tank being affected. I already have to swap them out fairly often as is.http://forums.taunton.com/n/docs/docDownload.aspx?guid=CAFDEA31-902C-4F75-9AA2-4DD5EBF749CB&webtag=tp-breaktime

Those suckas really work. we use them. They last a long time & totally dissolve. They come 6 in a green box. Called Clorox Automatic Toilet Bowl Cleaner. They have enough chlorine in them that they precipitate out iron in the tank - keeps the bbowl from getting a rust ring. Toilet should be flushed at least once per day.DonDon Reinhard

See? dats why I asked. I knew there was one that went under the rim, and was less hazardous.http://forums.taunton.com/n/docs/docDownload.aspx?guid=CAFDEA31-902C-4F75-9AA2-4DD5EBF749CB&webtag=tp-breaktime

My momma has some pretty nasty pizzwater coming outta her well. Called the local Kinetico thief and Presto! Now it's drinkable! Course, that did cost some money...
I don't want to drink it, just flush with it. All the while not having my terlet look like an outhouse.Spheramid Enterprises Architectural Woodworks

That problem, too, went away. Before, like you describe, the crud would build within hours.
It really makes the can look much cleaner.
That is the oddest toilet I have ever seen. Is it European?

I see you speak Montreal. If you don't know the word in one language, just switch to the other.
I have the same problem with my well water. My plumber says it's from the high mineral content and hardness of the water. I've tried every bowl insert made and none helped. I can't even get the buildup off the bowl with acid anymore.
My well or Spring would be worse, this is 'city' water, but from the Ky. River. We have lots of Limestone, makes strong race horses, but terrible water.I think this gunk is fish poo.http://forums.taunton.com/n/docs/docDownload.aspx?guid=46B35A4C-CD5A-41A0-BFFA-2F4A29FA1894&webtag=tp-breaktime

Same here, lots of limestone and sulfur. I see survey stakes out by the road. I hope it means city water which is still undrinkable but at least relatively clean.
The hot water doesn't help. A sediment filter WOULD help.
But it would be good to know what's comprising this scum. Could be hard water, could be iron, could be organics, could be some sort of fungal growth or some such. How you fix it depends a lot on what it is.
What color is it, and how thick does the scum get?
(And just a thought: If the flush valve is slowly leaking then that will cause scum to build up much faster in the bowl.)
Looks like Brown alga actually. Can be a film all under the water level, coating the bowl. A male can make it slough off with a "good stream" and good aim..LOL

May be tannins from leaves and such. Does the problem vary by season?

I used to use those bleach tablet until I got tired of replacing rubber parts. I found a device that just puts the bleach water in the bowl and not in the tank. It is made by Fluidmaster and you can get just clear or blue replacement cartridges. It works pretty good and installation is a snap. Just do a search for Fluidmaster 8300.
