I just attended a 16 hour training program for the Eco block ICF program for owner builders and residential construction people. I hope that ECO is offering this program in other areas. I learned a great deal about concrete and pouring methods in hot and cold weather. We also covered “Fast Foot” footing methods, the jury is out for me at least to see a significant cost saving using their method. It may be a viable system if the cost of rental of the hardware is cheap enough. I think if anyone is looking into using ICF systems, Eco would be very hard to beat. I think that there is a great deal of misinformation in the market place today and unless a person who is serious about working with ICF’s does not take the time to understand concrete and its properties could end up with a less than ideal home. The first day of our class was almost all given to the study of concrete and the additives to enhance pumping (flow). If you do not have good flow (low slump)you may have voids and in some cases vibrating the mixture could cause over pressure or aggregate separation if done incorrectly.
