Buck,
Are you in or near a larger city ? If so, look in the yellow pages for electric motor remanufacturers. Waste a bit of expensive gasoline running around to a few of these. They generaly carry a large selection of different brushes and if you take the old ones in with you and ask nicely, they may go in back and get you some comparable replacements. They'll also want some info about the motor, such as amperage, hp, etc. It would be best to take the motor with you, but have the brushes separate.
This works, I've done it many times.
*Luka,I still haven't done anything about that radial arm saw motor! You still up for it?MD
*Absolutely.Fill me in on the details again.
*Motor brushes are made from graphite. We've got some obsolete machinery, and have successfully made our own by getting brushes too big and sanding to size on a sheet of flat sandpaper on the bench. Precise size doesn't seem to be important.
*Buck O, what do your brushes look like? Dimensions? Sanding them down works, the little brass contact pieces and the spring are pretty non-critical to mission. They're pretty easy to fake. Have you tried a web search for electrical suppliers that might have something usable? Maybe even Grainger catalog? If you post the dimensions maybe someone will have something to fit. Joe H
