i am pretty familiar w/ electrical theory and 110v residential work. however, in moving my woodworking tools to the basement i need a 20A 220V outlet for my jointer, i already have the same in the garage for the air compressor. my question is can i use this this same 220V “line” to run both? can i have an outlet in the basement for the jointer and continue it to the garage for the compressor? each of them run a 1 1/2hp motor, and the current wire to the garage is way overkill at 8ga. thanks alot….

I'm not an electrical expert but I've never seen a 220 that wasn't a single device dedicated line. Of course you can have a 220 outlet into which you plug different devices but only one at a time, running more than one at the same time I don't know. Perhaps Bill Hartman can respond to this. I'll be interested to see what others have to say.
You can do this if there are "single use" devices.
But if you leave the AC on and it leaks down and starts when you are runing the joiner.
It like to put AC and dust collectors each on their own circuit.
TS, jointers, bandsaws, and the like can all share a single circuit in a one person shop.
