Good morning,
I have a outside outlet that stoped working, I had to cut open my wall to investigate and found out that the wire running up to the outlet had been pinched between the framing and has a couple of friction holes. My question is this, can I cut the wire back and splice a new wire on to it, and if so how would you recomend going about it?
Thanks

You cant have a splice or junction in the wall where there is no access to it.
Is there a convient spot before the bad spot where you could add another outlet or junction box with a blank cover? You could pull the wire back into the new outlet box install and run another wire to the old one. Mostly depends on where its broke and access around there.
Or put a box on the inside where you have the wall open. Then put on a blank cover plate or mount another receptacle in it..

A-holes. Hey every group has to have one. And I have been elected to be the one. I should make that my tagline.
if i could get to it with heat shrink, thats what i would do. i try to put on several layers also. not the the absolute best but sometimes you just gotta fix it and go on. larry
if a man speaks in the forest, and there's not a woman to hear him,is he still wrong?
If it were just the insulation jacket that was nicked, I might consider heat shrink tape too, but the wire is actually cut (remember, no power at outlet) so I hope you're not suggesting a splice outside of a box. That's dangerous and illegal.
if your wire is in 2,your screwed, you have to junction box or go back to the next plug.i thought you had just the insulation off at that spot.
i have went to the other side of the wall, put in another box with a receptical lower than normal,so the wire would reach, then come off of it to the other one.if a man speaks in the forest, and there's not a woman to hear him,is he still wrong?
What is near the bad spot in the wire that could be used to place a junction box? For instance if the wire goes through a crawlspace, the crawl would be the ideal place to put a junction box so that it doesn't get in the way.
Sometimes I've had to have the electrican put a junction box with blank cover behind some art. Use a little creativity and most junction boxes aren't even noticed.
