A few weeks ago, I posted a question here concerning the cost of installing a meter socket/main panel/disconnect in my new workshop. I thought I’d let you know how things turned out.
The electrical company that gave me the orginal bid (the one I thought was too high) turned out to be very helpful and quite flexible in allowing me to do the less skilled labor. They were even willing to let me buy my own disconnect/service panel/breakers, to save on their markup. I choose not to do that. I didn’t want any issues with me buying the wrong materials or leaving something out. I also wasn’t trying to cut thier margin razor-thin. My only issue was paying the full labor rate for someone to nail up boxes and pull Romex. Once we worked around that, I had no problem paying them a little markup on the big-ticket materials.
Bottom line: The work ended up costing me about $3800. That’s still not peanuts, but I feel it was fair. That monster disconnect and fuses accounted for about 25% of the total cost!!
I am so satisfied with both the quality of work and their willingness to work with me that I intend to hire them for the electrical work for the house.
Thanks again to everyone here for your help.
BTW I attached the “Picture2 006” file before I realized it was too big. How do you delete attachments after you’ve attached them?

Do a reply or start a new message.
Then go to Attach Files.
Then under the PIE there is a link to find your attachments.
Click on that and it will list everything that you have uploaded and you can delete them from there.
