I’ve got a customer that asked me about using engineered wood flooring. I’m not sure of the thickness. I’m old fashioned and believe in using the real McCoy, but I’m open to suggestions. They did say that they want wide planks and I know how wide planks of oak like to cup. Anyone have any suggestions, experience, or advice on the engineered floor?
Thanks,
John

Hi John,
You may want to check out http://www.kahrs.com and this will give you a start.
While your at this site, look up What's New and check out Woodloc, install hardwood floating floors without glue or nails, just snaps together.
Once you do a floor or two with engineered wood, you will want it for your own home. No warping and stays fresh looking longer.

*John:There are many, many types of engineered floors available today and I gotta admit after Gabe mentioned Kahrs a few times they do have some stunning products. I especially like the wide solid veneer types rather than the ones that have dozens of pieces laminated together.Check the wear layers of any products you may be looking at as some can be completely refinished 2-3 times with one that knows what he is doing.
*I've been looking into the same thing.I am a little suspicious of the new unproven fastening systems. The good news about this stuff is that it is more stable than solid flooring. This should help control shrinkage, especially if you are using it in the north with big climate swings.
