I am constructing a small combination horse barn / garage. 48′ long x 24′ wide with truss’ spanning the 24′ dimension @ 2′ OC. Along one 48′ wall one-half of the wall (24′) is made up of an entry door and a garage door with site built headers. The balance of the wall is a clear opening with a post in the center supporting a 24′ engineered wood header. The size of the header that I have been told to use is 1-3/4″ x 11-7/8″. Any preferred methods to increase the thickness of the header to a standard 3-1/2″ size to accomodate the center post cap?

expensive solution at $4.00lf for lvl's
Center the lvl and fluff up both sides. You leaving the lvl exposed?
The fluff both sides with labor might end up just a bit cheaper, thinking cedar.
Decorative build out at just the post and both ends or repetitive to look interesting and necessary.
fur and wrap the whole thing, for sure 4.00 a ft.
