Entry Door Install With Asbestos Siding
I have actually never installed an entry door with two side lights. So far it is tacked in through the brickmold. I will be adding ext. trim pieces, so the brickmold will be removed.
I assume the correct way to attach the door is to screw through the jamb, on the exterior side, to the 2X.
Then I have to re-install the asbestos siding. Anyone have a good way to cut that stuff?

I used a rotozip when I cut it.
I thought about that. But I bought the new Dremel model of a MultiMaster. Worked well on oak floor. Thought it might work on asbestos with less dust.Glenn
When I first started out in the early 70's, I was doing asbestos and aluminum siding. We had a cutter that looked like a paper cutter or a VCT tile cutter. It also had a punch on it for making nail holes. Personally I would avoid using tools that cause dust. A very dear friend died a horrible death due to asbestosis. I would consider renting a wet saw or see if they have a tile cutter that is up for the task.
Ah the days when to strip it you would just smash it with a hammer, let it fall to the ground, throw it in the trash, and off tho the land fill

I have a cutter for it.
Whatever you do, avoid making and breathing dust, and get your work clothes off, insideout, and straight in the washer.
Try score and snap like glass

Yes, I do have a good way to cut it. The guillotine cutter. But unfortunately, that won't help you much. Are you using the existing siding, or are you patching it back in with new pieces that match? If it's new pieces that don't contain asbestos like the ones from Hardi, I've used a diamond blade on a grinder to cut outlet holes and stuff. The score and snap will work, but be prepared to sacrifice some material. The stuff is not fun to work with, but once you get the hang of it, it's really kinda nice. THe pieces are nice and manageable. I've had luck finding both the straight bottom and the wavy bottom stuff at home depot.
Using existing pieces. Why wouldn't it help?Glenn
Because it's sitting in my basement. :)
When ya doing it?
I've got one of those guillotine cutters you can borrow, but I won't be back up to Wanaque until Sunday for church.
I'm probably going down to my brother's later in the week, but before Sunday. Are you actually planning on moving up here, or are you getting cold feet?Glenn
We'll be moving up there eventually. I've done pretty much everything needed to move into the house.
I told my wife I'm done working on the house until we move, and she needs to start packing. So right now, its up to her.
And she's a procrastinator.
Plus the house there doesn't have central air, and our current house does. Plus she's a light sleeper, so the window ACs there would bother her. I sleep like a rock, so they wouldn't bother me. But my snoring does bother her <G>
If you still want to borrow the cutter, let me know. If you're going to be down this way, I can leave it on my back porch. I'm working down near Deal this week, so I probably wouldn't be around. But you're welcome to it.
I might take you up on that. It sucks that it will be an 80 some odd mile trip to your place and then my brother's house.BEFORE I start to work. For free.Glenn
You gotta get better customers. <G>
No foolin'.Glenn
Bob,if you see this in time: If it is possible, could you bring the cutter up tomorrow (Sunday) and give me a shout and I'll pick it up? I get the feeling I'm not going to church tomorrow, so I should be home.If not, I'll just pick it up at your place if that's alright. Thanks for the offer.Glenn
Glenn-
its loaded in my car. I'll give you a call in the AM
