Hey all,
A brick on the back steps of my parents’ house broke off, mortar and all, from its sister bricks the other day. I was wondering if their is any way I can repair this short of remortaring, as all the mortar attached to the brick is still intact and still makes a clean joint when placed against the brick it broke away from. Is there any way of epoxying or otherwise reattaching it? Thanks in adavance.

I have done this before with PC-7 epoxy.....strong stuff, used to get it at local hardware store, don't know who sells it now, maybe the boxes? It was the same stuff that they glue the reflector dots to the roadway with. Got a couple of 5gal pails of it once from the state DOT.....when the statute of limitations is up, I just might tell y'all what got glued where. ;)
I sometimes just apply a little acrylic caulking in a mortar color and set it back in place. You want to do this when the weather is going to be clear for a few days (so that it doesn't get washed off before it can dry and set). It's cheap, quick, I usually have the caulk in the truck, and it seems to do the job with no problems. I've fixed quite a few bricks that way with no complaints yet.
the people who mfg. inter locking brick can tell you the adhesive to make steps using their bricks . its in a caulking tube and works great.
