*Wayne - I'm wondering why they don't show the labor estimates for the sample estimate. Anyone can count sticks. It's the labor estimation that makes or breaks you. I might be interested in a service like that, but they'd have to show me more than that. Are the prices they use local to Kentucky? How often do they update them? I'm about 2,500 miles from there, and I gotta believe that standard building practices here are at least a little different than there. Are you a builder, or are you involved with this company?
*Jim,Yeah, the building practices are different. You guys have indoor plumbing.Just another in a very long line of bad Indiana/Kentucky jokes (I assume they tell Indiana jokes down there...).Rich Beckman

Jim, thanks for the feedback. Yes I am a small builder and the Web page is mine. I am trying to find a niche in the e-commerce area. I have been doing single, multifamily and light commercial cost estimating for the last thirty plus years. I am hoping there will be some interest in a cost database for home builders. The cost is mainly from Kentucky and other southern states and is kept current. As far as different building practices goes I have found that materials may vary 10% (excluding the islands and Alaska) from one place to the next. However, labor costs can double from one place to the next. My database can be adjusted for all 50 states and Canada (over 1100 cities). If the home builder's estimator makes a correct takeoff there should not be any big surprises when they do their final estimate. I would think anyone in the building business knows for an accurate and dependable estimate they need to compile their cost from their vendors and trade contractors. Cost databases should be used only for preliminary estimates. Thanks for your interest and please e-mail me if you have any more questions. Wayne
