Eurekazone Smart Router

PaulBinCT | Posted in Tools for Home Building on December 7, 2004 06:50am
I recently installed and used the Smart Router accessory to the Smart Guide from Eurekazone (www.eurekazone.com) .
The system consists of a heavy aluminum baseplate that is slotted to fit most any router, I would think, as well as a plastic “sled” that dovetails very precisely into the Smart Guide’s top edge (http://www.eurekazone.com/instructi…terinstall.html) (as well as my attachment “routeronrail”). It seems to be made out of a self lubricating plastic (nylon maybe?). The installation on my DW 625 was quite painless (see attachment “routerguide”). The system once assembled allows a tremendous amount of “tweaking” to fit an individual router. The sled has pinch blocks to adjust for a tight fit of the sliding mechanism, and incorporates adjustments for leveling the router. The two locking knobs allow you to individually lock one axis of movement so you can either slide parallel, or perpendicular to the guide rail, or both. This allows some very tricky movements, as shown on the Eurekazone website. Also included are edge guides for using the router without the Smart Guide. I found the tracking of the router very precise and smooth along the length of the rail. I used it last night to cut some stopped dadoes for some bookcases I’m building and got results that were dead on both for placement of the individual dadoes as well as exactly parallel from one to the next (attachment “dadoes”).

Happy to answer any questions…my apologies for the mediocre photo quality, what’s the saying about the shoemaker’s kids go barefoot?

Yabadabadou? Something like that. Hello Fred.

This is a true story about the day that I decided to stop doing construction and go into this.  Now some say that I'm a (tool) pimp. Other's say that the EZ Smart changed the way they live.  But when I was in construction they call me Dino the Carpenter, the plasterer,  the tileman,  the painter,  the builder.

My specialty was to fix other people’s mistakes,  And insurance claimsthat require authentic reproduction and reconstruction and historical restoration.

As you can imagine I had any and all tools availableon the market and always I kept a full equipped woodworking shop. My last work van was an Isuzu box truck. And my last shop was 2500 sq.feet.

I'm trying to go right to the point here but I feel that the Big point may get lost without mentioning the above, and  telling  you that in order to accomplish all these difficult jobs and make money we had  to come up with jigs and gadgets in every job.

We all do that every day. But we don't have the self confidence to stop what we're doing and get this ideas to the market. Or the money to pay the bills while we spend our time designing, making prototypes,  testing ,searching materials and trying to find manufacturers to work with you. And you need both confidence and money to become a .. tool pimp.

The construction business was very good to me over the years. So money was not a problem. Confidence? Every time I made up some jigs and gadgets my guys were making a joke while I was around. And I think now is the time for the story.

One day I give one of the jigs to a friend to trim few doors and moldings. My crew chief  ($300.00 a day plus), calls me up and asks me “where is the jig?” “Why?”  I say to him, “ You never liked it. You were making fun of me with this stupid jig. I give it to someone who needs it. You don't need this thing. You have a whole truck full of expensive tools.”

His answer?  “OK Dino. I'm taking off until you get this thing back from your friend. Call me when you have it.”

What really happened after that was very funny. But I'm too upset to enjoy the rest. So I will finish the true story soon but what would you have done in my case?

And why my were mu guys rejecting my ideas and hiding the true from me for so long? And the truth was ...as soon as I left the job site they only use my jigs and gadgets.

      YCF Dino

        Oh man,

I just gots to hear the rest of that story!

        be alive

        1. dinothecarpenter | Dec 09, 2004 04:44am | #15

Rez. I ask the other guys if they can finish the job without the Chief carpenter. And they all say: No problem as long you give us the guide. (this job was a mess. 75 something year's old house in Newark that we turn into an office building)

That was it. I never call Alex back to work. And as soon that job was done I thank the other guys for telling me (after many years) that they can't work without a jig. One new guy even told me that Alex and the other guys they don't want me to know how much they was using all the jigs that I' made over the years.

Now you see why I'm upset? Any way, if you see the Ez Smart as another straight edge....Why buy it?

But if you can see how this thing can change the way you go about working every day, Then is a whole new way to go about working  (EZ Smart) that you have discover.

Do you think I will bet my F.Ferrari if I was not sure about it?

          YCF
