What do you need?
daily report. it be a column of numbers, someday it might be ten number other days it might be more. so each line has the forumla. but day when numbers are short you will get "#value" which means there is no number in the first column. But the formula is still there. How do I hide the "#value" without deleting the formula?I keep thinking i will have to add something like " if x =0 then"
yeah, I ran into this in a project a while back. At least I think it's the same, if I'm understanding you correctly. Let me look on my office computer tomorrow and I'll send you the formula. It was simple, but I never would have come up with it on my own...
Sorry - I can't find the spreadsheet. Hopefully one of the other responses here gives you what you need...
The if statement would work but it's probably more like:
if x="" as in an empty cell.
I'm using Excel 2003 which has a search result:
Hide error values and error indicators in cells
with one answer being:
Format text in cells that contain errors so that they don't show
Select the cells that contain the error value.
On the Format menu, click Conditional Formatting.
In the box on the left, click Formula Is.
In the box on the right, type =ISERROR(reference), where reference is a reference to the cell that contains the error value.
Click Format, and then click the Font tab.
Click Format.
In the Color box, select white.
If it fights you (and it fights me on a regular basis), post a sample file or send it directly to my email account and I'll see what I can do.

There is a function called conditional formatting (format menu) you can tell the cell what to do.edit: I see someone beat me to it. Should work though, good luck.

I think this is what you need. Use the value zero for your formula condition.

The "IF" statement will probably do what you want. Here's a line I use in one of my spreadsheets:=IF(D558="","",D558)If cell #D558 is blank, this the cell this formula occupies is blank. If there's something in cell #D558, that value is displayed in the cell this formula occupies. You can type "IF" in a cell, then hit the "F1" key, and it will give you help with the "IF" function.
Q: What cruises down the river at 60 mph?
A: A motorpike with a side carp.
type a zero in the offending cell. Not really whiz bang but if I am understanding your problem correctly, a zero in the leading cell of the range will allow the formual to return zero where no information will return #value#.

4 or 5 hours a day. 5-6 days a week.
Can you attach a sanitised version of the workbook? Take proprietary and confidential info out.
Or email me and I'll send you my ph#.
Follow the formula approach that Boss offered.
But, I'd go one better--put your information "off" to the right or not in the "published" page (or offset the page you actually print). Why bother?
Well, it's much easier to format for the printed page that way, for one. All the actually printed page needs is a column with the "whats", then a link to the data.
so:
"Line One" [tab over one column] "+[cell address]
repeat.
Much easier to "do" the graphics of lines, totals, subtotals, taxes etc., as a "finished" product that way. Ok, it's imperfect, but, you also have all of your data available in just the one file (much nicer than fighting OLE links).
But, I will admit to bias--I've used a professional program (Perfect Office) for such things, and the kluugy, anti-intuitive, aimed at kindergarteners Office aps still leave me a bit cold.
