I have structural, double wythe brick exterior walls in my 1920 home, and I want to remove the plaster on the inside to expose the brick in the living room. The plaster almost 3/4″ thick, and is adhered directly to the brick. How to remove the plaster? I’ve tried chipping away at it, and it not only took forever, but also seemed to be taking a lot of mortar with it. Is the plaster structural? Would removing it after 80 years sacrifice the integrity of the brick wall?

This is a great question and I wonder if anyone ever posted a response and what were the results of your efforts??
