Getting ready to pour an 8′ x 8′ slab with a little walkway in
our front yard. We love exposed aggregate except one minor
hitch–I’ve never done exposed aggregate!! What’s the method and
what type of concrete do I order??? Thanks ladies and gentlemen
for making my wife very happy with your input!! FLA

Flavios, I trust that you a some experience in concrete as to being able to form, pour, and level a slab. This I will assume. The concrete mix should be 6 bag with 5/8 river (rounded) rock.Local redi-mix vary in mix design.Aggregate should be bumped to 2900-3000 lbs,/yard, Yes it will be a "rocky" mix but that is what you want. Pour on the stiff side (4"slump) to keep
aggregate ot the surface. Float surface as required to fill ALL
voids. Any notable indentations need to be fill with stone/cream
to assure consistent exposure. Edge and joint as normal. Your local construction supply will be able to provide a surface retarder which is applied as soon as the floating is complete.Depending on weather conditions, 1-5hrs, test the slab
by drawing your finger across it. Hard enough to draw paste/craem without pushing down stones. Test with garden hose.starting with fine/light pressure. CAREFUL! Once you blow a hole in the surface it is there. 2-3 days later wash with dilute solutin of acid. Let dry and apply sealer. (from supply house, not Home Destroy) Good Luck, Rick
