Question: When to install extensions jambs on windows, before or after the blueboard/veneer plaster goes up? I saw one post that said do it before, but I’d hate to have to go back and redo/plane jambs that ended up not being a 1/16″ proud.
I’d prefer to wait. Sound right?

Hi ... I had a thread on this last month ... #51919 ... there was a sensible suggestion to do the jamb extensions first and have the plasters use them as 'grounds' ... of course, they won't be proud at all, but would end up perfectly flush all the way around. If I had it to do again, I think I would have done that. This is probably obvious to everyone but me, but make sure they tape over the jambs so they don't get gooped up with plaster, whether you put the extensions on first or not.

brown... you can do it either way.. as bill said ... if you do it first ... and do a good job of it.. the plasterers can use them as a ground...
we do it both ways... most of the time ... we do extension jambs after the skim coat...Mike Smith Rhode Island : Design / Build / Repair / Restore
Thanks for the info. I was hoping someone would say the opposite so that I wouldn't have to bust my #### to get the jambs in ahead of the plasterer. Oh well, who needs sleep.

Mike knows about a million times more than I do - if he says you can do it either way, then take a night off ....
Thanks, I could use a good nights sleep. I'm on month 9 of a 2 month renovation
brown... what it comes down to is..
either the skim coat guys have to meet your extension jambs..
or your extension jambs have to meet the skim coat..
either one works fine.. or .. either one can get screwed up.. but it's usually a minor screw-upMike Smith Rhode Island : Design / Build / Repair / Restore
