Building a deck, and for the first time in San Diego (transplanted from NY), I need to build stairs. In the east, we used treated yellow pine, but the treated lumber here is too ugly to be exposed.
So what do we use in So Cal for exterior stairs?
Doug fir is an option, or red wood ($$) ?
Thanks, Tony

Is there anything in So Cal that isn't built of redwood?
How about PT stringer with treads of different material. Perhaps what was used on the deck (what did you use for decking)?
In any event, the stringers are not salient feature and for the most part, covered by treads.
good luck, Carl
