I’m going to be building a basic exterior door for a 3-6 x 6-8 opening, out of white pine. The door will be located in a north-facing wall under an eave of the house. I’d like to put a clear finish on the door that will last a while – the door may be there for several years until we build something better out of hardwood. This will be the main entry for guests and visitors, and I want something that looks nice.
Suggestions?

Spar Marine Varnish, such as McCloskey Man-o'-War, comes in Gloss and Satin.
I usually put 3 coats on, giving a full day to dry in between each coat, and maybe re-coat after a couple of years if it is weathering.
