Exterior Painting – Trim first or siding first?
I’m still in the scraping and priming stage of my whole-house exterior painting job, but I’m thinking ahead to putting on paint, and I’m curious where people stand on which to do first – siding or trim (windows, doors, cornerboards, etc). The house has clapobards on the main body and shingles on the gables, and I’m going to be spraying, then back-brushing.

I would do the trim last myself.
The same color, or contrasting?
Siding first.
If you spray the siding first and then do the trim by hand you will minimize the masking needed.
For exterior painting, it is better to use spray machine. As it covers the whole area when started with trim. Then cover the siding carefully.
If you do the trim first, you'll continually be going back to touch-up - especially if you're spraying.
Otherwise, a good general rule is to do the light colors first. Most of the time, the trim is darker / more strongly colored than the field. Strong colors cover weak ones much easier than the reverse.
