I want to add a simple porch rail around my covered front porch. The porch is on the north side of the house, obviously getting no direct sunlight. Because of the existing exterior finish on the house, the rails and balusters will have to be white. The manufactured porch railing material I have seen cannot be painted or, if it is manufactured in white, the finish is a glossy vinyl look that won’t go at my house.
My inclination is to use cedar or redwood and the best sealer/primer/paint I can buy to avoid having to repaint often.
Does anyone know of a “maintenance free” manufactured porch rail product that is made in white and looks like flat or semi-gloss paint? If not, is there a better choice of wood? How about a recommendation on a sealer/paint product to minimize maintenance?

I believe there is a way to degloss vinyl with a chemical of some sort. Have you tried calling the manufacturer?
I've been searching for the same thing. I think I found it: check out hbgcolumns.com
You'll probably want to find a local distributor and see for yourself.
