I’ve have narrowed my window choices for my new home being constructed in a couple of months to Marvin and Loewen.
If I understood the window suppliers correctly the Marvin (Double Hung Clad) comes with the exterior clad trim all in the window unit, and the Loewen will need to have trim put on separately.
Is there an advantage to going with the trim already in place, or is it just personal preference?
The siding will be hardi.
Also regardless of the windows chosen, am I better off to have the trim independent of the windows, so it would match other trim on the house.
thanks

Hey SAP,
Just went through a similar choice. Marvin – Loewen, casements – no casements. In the end I chose Marvin without the trim. As you stated I’m having the trim placed on the window units on site to match the house trim (my windows are wood exterior). I’m very happy with the results. If you choose to put on your own trim make sure the sill horns match the width of the window trim you select. By the way when I priced out my windows Loewen was cheaper. I went back to Marvin and they matched Loewen’s price. I have to say, Marvin is a great product.
Good Luck,
Jay
Thanks Jay,
I have the Loewen quote which is about 32,000 with taxes, this also includes the rear 8ft wide slider with transoms, and a 5x7 arch for the front foyer. The Marvin people are revising their quote to be with and without the clad trim so i can compare them equally.
Thanks for the other points on the trim
Sap
I'm not sure but I think Marvin will give you any color you want. You won't have to paint or add the trim, faster and easier?
Thanks,
I had the Marvin people quote me the windows originally with the color and trim for the reasons you stated.
