Sorry to keep asking basic questions on this. I am attempting to reconstruct the wooden fan detail over my front door. The detail has an elliptical shape and the molding piece that forms the ellipse looks like it was made from two pieces. From my measurements, it would appear that the board each piece was cut from, would have to have been 18 inches wide. Seeing that I most likley won’t be able to find any of the “King’s boards” of this width, do people think it would be durable enough to cut the pieces out of two pine boards that have been edge glued together. Any other ideas or suggestions appreciated. I would like to avoid plywood for this piece. Hope this question makes sense.

I use a fypon. It is lightweight and easy to install and paint.
Do you have a lumber yard nearby (like we do) that can heat bend Azek or Koma for this?
We did something like that.

I have several that I can try. Thanks for the suggestion. Kieran

Do you think 40" is wide enough?Jeff
That would definitely do the trick! Not sure I have the time to wait for the bidding to end. Thanks for the link.
You can always contact the seller and make them an 'off-the-record' offer (as a fellow down-easter) ;o)Jeff
how about glueing up rips in the elipse shape with waterproof glue?
That is sort of what I was envisioning. Would every one still reccommend pine that has been primed on all edges after the glue up? Kieran
