Hello –
Any positive or negative feedback on ductless a/c systems ?
Brands ?
Looking into getting a system (with two wall units) for our house.
One for living/dining area and other wall unit would be for the master BR.
In our area I see them only in retrofits in old school buildings and automatic teller machine cubicles.
Otherwise inquiring about them is met only with blank stares.
Thanks,
Alan

Hey Alan,
I assume you are talking about the true ductless, not the small, high velocity ducts.
I've used a Sanyo split system for two different situations. Worked fine. They tend to be VERY pricy, compared to regular AC. (Due to the economies of scale.) If you cannot put ducts in, it may be cost effective.
Keep an eye on the SEER ratings. Split systems can be on the low side since they are often targeted for non-residential use. Make sure they are drained properly (condensate)-quite a mess in a computer room due to a dead mouse in a drain tube.

*Thanks, Adam - After running into some very rude bubbas at the local air conditioning wholesale house (the only place around here that supplies the Sanyo units and only to contractors) I decided to search elsewhere.I see many retrofitted schools and offices and have been interested in them for about 7-8 years.Doing my best to avoid installing air handling ducts in the house.
*We've had successful results at my house with several well placed thou-the wall and window air conditioners, with the addition of one vent between 2 rooms. Our house, after 2 additions, is kind of spread out, but still the geometry here, and the fact the hot air rises, all add up to a workable situation.Small (5000-8000 but) air conditioners have improved A LOT in the past decade. They're available much quitter and quite energy efficient, and some come with a case that works in a window or wall. With both installations we've made it through some pretty impressive storms without leaks.fancy from RI, where it stays in the 90's with 100% humidity for many days at a time.
*Thanks, Nancy -I have considered a couple of well placed single units. Modern units seem to have thermostats and other controls that make them far more efficient then the ones from 10-15 years ago. And, yes, I have noticed a lot quieter also.
*Alan, came across a "new to me" A/C system in an old house where the cold air was plwon thru (force?) thru tubes, sort of like an in house vacuum cleaner. Lady said it was expense but worth it to her. It was done by a Lennox contractor.
*Hi, Dallas - It's the high velocity system.Once again, I'm wanting to avoid any central air handling equipment.
