Saw an infomercial today for the Fein multimaster. I wonder why they felt the need to stoop that low. And I think they stretched the capabilities of the tool. They showed using it to scrape sheet vinyl off the floor, and sand-refinish a flight of stairs.
I called the number on the screen and they wanted one payment of $69 plus $19 s&h for a free 30 day trial, then three more payments of $69 for a total of $299.

Who did the commercial? Fein?
A great place for Information, Comraderie, and a sucker punch.

Same reason the rest of them do. They want to cash into the DIY and FIY markets with all of the shows on TV.
Little Giant ladders does it
Rotozip did it..and way overhyped the capibilities of the tool
I'm sure there are more
I guess I thought Fein was a classier company than this. And I would not think of the multimaster as a mass-market tool.

Maybe if a bunch of homeowners start buying them accessory prices will start dropping, other companies might start making cheaper knock offs of the blades. The blade costs are the number one reason I havn't invested in one of these yet. I have a bosch finecut, so that handles most of what I need, and a buddy of mine has a multimaster if I needed it in a pinch. He never has blades for it though because he doesn't want to drop the money on them, so it usually just sits on a shelf.
Just for those who don't already know it, there's a guy on Ebay who sells his own knock-offs of the straight blades. I've bought a bunch of 'em and am happy w/them. Less than $20 and free shipping.
The Fien Blade knock-offs are ebay Item number: 320021611613
I've tried them and I'm happy with them.
I remember someone here some time back explaining how to make the blades your self. They used an old hand saw blade, cut it up to the same shape as the original blades on the Multi tool then drilled a hole for attaching to the tool. Seemed to be a great way to keep costs down and get rid of an old hand saw.

Just call me doodyhead.
Great . . . give 'em about two years, and you'll be able to pick one up on Ebay for $100 - $150. Really, the more they get out there, the more likely that becomes. They'll hype it up, and folks that don't have a bit of use for one will buy the hype, and the tool, too.
I LOVE my multimaster.
