Holy crap where do you sign up to be the guy to test that thing!
I imagine its a great saw but 2K, yikes thats a lot of dough.
Doug
It looks like an old Hitachi dual slide to me. I've always wanted one of those. But I'd rather pay the Hitachi price.
Think ya used enough dynamite there, Butch?
That price was in Austrialian dollars, converting it to USD, the price is $1500. More affordable but not enough.
No one knows the price. He's just making a guess. You'd have to imagine that it would be somewhere around market price for a scms.

Have you looked at the price of any other Festool stuff?

That's what I was thinking. They have their own market price. LOL

I have the 55 saw. Seems to me
it is easier to use left handed.
I have read in
the past where some think the tools
are designed by a leftie. One of
the pix of the SCM shows a leftie
using it.
The price of the saw in europe is about 1200.00 Euro. That means my guess of $2000.00AUS is about right. In USA Festool products seem to be about 20-25% cheaper than the rest of the world so it would probably sell for around $1200-1300US.
Cheers
Thomas.
I agree as a lefty...The 55saw is great to use as a lefty
The jigsaw "lock on" button is in the absolutely worst spot on the jigsaw for a lefty?I wonder if that thing comes in a Systainer box too? he, he, he...__________________________
Judo Chop!
Sure i've seen festool prices, even own a few, jigsaw, rotex, planer. While it's more expensive it's not over double the going rate of other top equipment (bosch, makita, hitachi etc)
Just how many of their scms do they think they'll sell for the above suggested prices?
I'd be very surprised if they put it on the US market for over $1000.
Time will tell I suppose.

Just wasn't sure what you meant by - around market price.
To me average market price for a 12" Slider would be about $650. I wouldn't expect to see the Festool come out in that price range. My experience is that most Festool stuff goes for close to double the average price of the other big names - Bosch, Makita, Hitachi, Milwaukee, etc.
Like you say, time will tell.
OK, at the risk of getting the festool crowd riled up...
if you have all the overpriced festool stuff
Why do you need a 1500$ mitre saw...
I thought the circ saw could do EVERTHING!!!
be jealous of a market that will never go dryI don't feel safe in this world no more I don't want to die in a nuclear war I want to sail away to a distant shore and make like an ape man
You just couldnt let it pass could ya!
Be trying to festool it up a bit with the colour.

Wait!!!! We have more.

david.
They are selling a modified biscuit jointer for $700, I don't see $1500 as a stretch. I own festool tools, but I won't be buying a Festool scms unless I'm held at gun point.
I have the 55 saw. After reading the preceding, I
suppose I'm required to sell it! :-)
Festool is certainly expensive. I got the
saw because of its dust collection and
because I didnt want to fiddle with setting
up the saw.
But Fes has come out with all that table stuff
to put your saw in and it is getting a bit
ridiculous. Might as well just use a table
saw.
To stay on topic, the CSM looks like a nice
piece, esp the dust collection which with
any CSM is a pain. But Im sure the sticker
shock will be tooth rattling. With Festool, you buy only what you really
need or you'll end up in the poor house.
I never said anything about getting rid of festool or even about them not being worth the price. But I don't think that the quality of my work will improve becasue of the Festool CMS. Not to the tune of $1500 anyway. I Think that it got much better when I switched from the bosch router to the festool, but was a difference of about $150.
You are probably correct. Dust collection is what
makes it for me.
Has anyone actually seen this thing in action? Is the dust collection on par with the rest of their tools?
Saw it on the internet video on the Aussie Festool site. Looks good on the video.
However, for that price I'll leave my SCMS in the client's yard. I can't justify it either. I did justify the circular saw with guides and vac when I had a job to build cherry and walnut cabs on site and wanted to keep the dust down as I cut up the 4x8 sheets. I am pleased I did because I couldn't store the sheet goods, ~$120 per sheet, in the garage of the client's home. I put them in the library and cut them in the house.
The client was thrilled with me, I was her hero, because of the lack of mess. She told some other folks about how neat I was and I got two other jobs.
I cut the trim outside and carried it in, the days it rained I did other things, and I'll continue to do that until I can price at the premiun level to justify the Festool SCMS, if ever.
The bottom line is no one really knows what the bottom line on this tool will be - or if it will ever show up in the US!
-Norm
I have used the Festool circular saw with the guide and certainly was impressed. But it was the woodshop's where I worked last summer here in Spain (not mine). Their prices are more in line with tools here but still expensive. Here DeWalt is one of the most overpriced names on the market.
I waiting for someone to start plugging an EZSmart product that does the same thing and hijack this thread.
Ahleedhelp...
You need help? :)
david
re - You need help? :)Nah, I've been a Festool owner/fan and noticed all the threads touting and plugging the EZ stuff.
Can't help the sarcasm.
Which reminds me I need to order a couple of blades for the 55 saw...
Did someone say EZ?
Sorry.
I can't help you with any selection of blades or good deals.
Talking about blades...
Makita 7 1/4", 24 tooth blades on sale for $33 for a box of ten. http://www.heavydutytools.net/Scripts/default.asp
david
re - Sorry.I can't help you with any selection of blades or good deals.--------Thanks - I was just reminding myself to order some from Festo.
Not price shopping, and they use those funky European "expensive" blades! :-)
The Festool blade selection and quality is very good.
No problem ordering the right blade for right material.
david.
re - The Festool blade selection and quality is very good.
No problem ordering the right blade for right material.-------yes, and surprisingly also prices on their proprietory sanding discs are very good.
still using the original blade with excellent results but it's time to try some different ones.
Did anyone notice that those are Australian dollars not US? Who knows what the price will be when or if it is sold in North America.
I don't think there is a slider out there worth 2k I don't care who makes it
It'd have to come with a hot chick that does the cutting for me to spend that kind of dough!
Doug
I'm gonna save up for one by using generic OSB T&G for subfloor instead of Advantech, and by buying cheap Stanley levels at Lowe's instead of Stabilas. Oh, and #30 felt under the shingles, instead of that pricey RoofTopGuard stuff, that'll help. ;-)
don't forget sheetrock screws for cabinets and maybe even decks... you could save a fortune there, or regular old galvy hangers... Maybe some of that HD lamanite flooring instead of wood, hey it all looks the same from a distance right?
The possibilities are endless!
