Damn I am aggravated about this situation. Went into a local Woodcraft and purchased the 5″ sander and vacuum. Sweet operation, no complaints there. Nice being able to sand inside and not get dust in your azz crack…….Anyhoo
The guy tries to sell me the 6″ sander. I told him I was interested in the 5″ because I have a lot of 5″ H&L paper at the shop for the other sanders and didn’t want to waste it. He said ahhh, I understand. I went home with my multimillion dollar purchase. Get everything out to do a job and my paper didn’t line up in regards to the holes! What kind of sick prank is that! Damn store isn’t open to get more, had to use what the sander came with which was a few pieces, finally get to the store the next day and they don’t even have what I needed. “Yeah, sorry. Some guy comes in every week and buys everything we have. A floor guy.” I am like, how about buy an azz load for the rest of us sh!t birds……
How about having someone knowing the products available in the store sell them? He was not new.
How about a “sir, normal 5” paper won’t fit Festool because they are non-comformist and want you to spend more on their products…… Guess I’m gonna check Klingspor or cut some holes in my other paper……
Sorry just venting for a moment, carry on.

Dude, I hear ya. Festool doesn't make a Mag 77 yet but if they do it will be a friggin, odd azz, metric, not even close to 7 1/4", different size arbor, super expensive thing. (with dust extraction of course!)

ROAR!! Man, you just jogged my memory. At first the dude called it a vacuum as I would have, then in the middle of it all corrected himself out loud and called it a dust extractor! This happened several times... " sorry, I mean dust extractor, not vacuum", I chuckled each time.
I guess I am more aggravated at myself over the whole thing. This is one reason I do my own research when buying tools. I didn't this time and left it up to him to show me a few things. I really wanted the small sander like a palm orbit sander but when he set everything up I couldn't get a smooth sand because it wasn't set correctly, vacuum, speed, etc..... Kept jumping around all over the place. The next one I picked up was the 5" RO 125 dual mode sander and it worked. So I bought the package deal with the CT 22, $700 worth. Semper Fi

I bought that sander off Ebay a few months ago. I'm not thrilled with it. Its OK I guess. My PC ROS fell a few times too many and went into wobble mode, hence the Festool. Its not quite as aggresive as I'd like and the paper issue IS an issue. I don't think Klingspor carries it.
When you do find it buy alot. Thats one of my issues with it. You have to have the exact right paper. Maybe if you get one of those looseleaf paper hole punchers that might work nice on solid sandpaper....might try that myself!!

That is what I plan to do. Punching paper is a last resort to me. Way too little time left for me to do that. Maybe when I retire........Semper Fi

If you told him the reason you were buying it was because you had a bunch of 5" paper and he didn't bother to tell you that your old paper wouldn't work - he was not doing you any favors as a salesperson. The only reason you buy from someplace like that is for service - and you didn't get any. What an idiot! (him)Then for them not to have any paper in stock and to admit that they run out every week... I'd be tempted to return the entire damn combo to them and buy it somewhere else just out of principle.Complain away - it's justified.I don't care for the local Woodcraft store in my area - aside from their $5 router bit deals which can't be beat - there's not much in there that I'm willing to pay list prices for.Plus - the main guy there seems very smug and uninterested in giving you much help.JT
I have a very low opinion of the Woodcraft here in Kansas City too, for similar reasons.
If you don't go in there spending huge amounts of money, they kind of sniff at you.
One day I went to inquire about some wood I could use to build cabinet doors. The salesman showed me what he had and I remarked that they seemed to be pretty expensive. He looked at me with disdain, turned around and walked away.
I thought to myself, this guy has evidently never had his butt kicked. Anyway, that was two years ago, and I have not missed the place. In fact, I have been able to find everything that I need elsewhere.
>>> I thought to myself, this guy has evidently never had his butt kicked. I love that. That's a classic - he sounds like the same guy I dealt with. They've got some great deals on 2x2 1/2" baltic birch plywood for $38 a piece!JT

its a nice little sander, 'member it's a finish sander so if you're trying to get aggressive with it, you'll just piss yourself off.I've bought screws and some festool stuff from Mcfeelys on the www and have had good service, not sure if they have paper. Great trim screws though!..__________________________

My old Makita palm sander came with a metal plate that has two alignment ribs on two sides, and a set of spikes to punch holes in the paper to correspond to the holes in the pad. You put the paper on the pad, then stick the hole punch base onto the bottom of the sander. It punches holes in the right place.
Seems like you could make something similar, even out of wood. Use a correct piece of paper with holes to get the alignment, cut the base out of something like 1/4" hardboard, and wrap a little piece of bender board around it to align the pad. Just have to figure out what to use to punch the holes. ONe solution might be a hard wood dowel that you sharpen and cut off, then glue the points onto the wood base.
Well, the good news is Festool prices their paper competitively with their competitors.
And, when used with the vac, the paper seems to last a lot longer than it does with my other sanders.
Your experience with Woodcraft is another good reason to buy anything Festool from one of their independent sales agents, since you won't have to pay sales tax, and shipping is usually free.

You were not treated well and it's aggravating for the money you were laying out plus you explained why you were choosing the 5".
I sometimes buy blank discs at a too good to ignore price and use an arch punch to get the holes needed. With 100 grit you can knock out 4 discs at a time.
I also have 2 6" AEG random orbit sanders with 16 holes that require the arch punch. I don't do the 16 holes.
And if you are where dust collection doesn't matter keep the discs solid.
If you have a porter cable 5" ROS, the hose from the festool dust collector should fit it.
About 15 years ago I bought a 6" AEG ro sander after reading a favorable review in FHB. It's a German company and was recently purchased by Milwaulkee and its no longer sold in the US, probably to avoid competition against Mil. It's a great tool, but the sanding discs have 16 holes and they are not available and no one else has anything similar. I ended up getting high quality, no holes discs from a supplier I located on the net and got a leather punch from garret wade to make neat and properly sized holes. A good solution for me, a dyi'r who doesn't use that many discs. Cheaper than buying a new tool.
Klingspor still has your discs.
But like you I'd rather punch my own, I have a Bosch 6" too so solid discs are the way to go for me.
THANK YOU VERY, VERY MUCH. I googled this to death about a year ago and came up empty. Don't remember if I came across Klingspor's site.
Hole pattern aside did the normal H&L paper stick to the Festool pad, I was told by one of the reps that their system was different and nomral hook and loop wouldn't stick.
The sand paper stuck better than my PC or DW sanders! Barely could get the sh!t off...... :-)Semper Fi

did the normal H&L paper stick
Made me think.....Just before I purchased the Festool sander I replaced the pad on the PC sander. Forgot to put sand paper on the pad and sanded away. For some reason it didn't sand too well..... :-) Paper didn't stick then. Had to replace the pad AGAIN. Semper Fi

To be honest I should have seen the writing on the wall.
Last year I went into the same store to buy a cabinet saw, Delta. I saw the display they had set up and was for sale. I couldn't even slide the fence. Everything was out of wack. Damn tables weren't even aligned. Basically couldn't try out the machine on the floor to see it's potential without actually running it. I asked the salesman first then the manager/owner if they would tune it up I will walk out with it. They said they couldn't. Liability issues. I said Hmmmm, so you are going to let someone walk out with an untuned piece of shid and not be liable?
In short, I went home sawless that day. I went online, same company, tax free, delivered to the house and the guy even put it in the shop.
Where is my sign?

You need to send a note to Woodcraft customer service and invite them to read this discussion.

LOL, I did think about that! I spoke with my dad yesterday, he is going over there and raise a little h3ll himself. His mind set is that if you sell a product you must be able to support it. He has had problems himself and this gives him another reason to go and vent to them. He claims Woodcraft local store has his hands tided behind thier back. They order the stuff but only so much comes in at any given time or it is back ordered.
Seems strange to me because I can order from the house tax free, beer in hand and it comes in a few days. I would prefer to buy local and aid in our economy in my own town.Semper Fi

I do believe the Ftools come with a 30 day money back/return/guarantee deal. If it sucks, return it!
The sales guy did you (or himself) no favors by putting on a slick show. Find another dealer or buy a different tool. $700 clams is too much to feel like you been hosed - and I'm sure Ftool doesn't want you to feel that way either.

I'll take this thread as an opportunity to point out to folks that didn't know it that Home Depot has switched out models of the Ridgid 6" dual-orbit sander by replacing the original German made Metabo clone with a China made imitation. The original Metabo clone is model #2610 - the China replacement is #2611.Most stores will no longer have the #2610 - but I've still seen it at a few and I bought one last year and have been real happy with it for the money ($129).JT

Others I have spoke with have said the same. Problem is I like the product. But the place where I purchased the tool has bad support. It is a shame. I plan to keep the tool but look elsewhere for my support, then if I plan to purchase another Festool product, I will buy from the other merchant.Semper Fi

Personally, I've had great service from McFeely's but I've also heard nothing but praise for Bob Marino. He checks into the forums occaisonally too.
festoolownersgroup.com is another forum worth following if you're going to stick with the Festool systems.
