I have checked online sites and find fiber cement nails but they have
smaller heads than Hardie advises. Head size is ~.22″ where Hardie advises 0.37″. These will be hand nailed blind. Are these acceptable or should I stick with 3/8″ head (roofing)nails?

Why do you need SS nails if you are blind nailing? Just use 2" roofers. The smaller head SS nails should be fine for the places you will need to face nail.
for blind nailing we use HOT DIPPEd galv roofers ( gun nails ) that we get from Maizefor face nailing we use a SS Bostich coil siding nailMike Hussein Smith Rhode Island : Design / Build / Repair / Restore
Welcome to Breaktime!
Just checked your profile for your locale, found it blank.
I checked your profile to determine if there was some special environmental consideration which would require SS nails -- like you live on a windward coast somewhere with lots of salt spray carried by the wind.
If not, for blind nailing I would just use a galvanized nail with head size to match the mfr's specs.

You will need to follow Hardie's instructions in order to keep their warranty. Hardie strongly recommends stainless steel nails. Try fastenersusa.com. I know they carry plenty of gun nails in stainless, but I think that they also carry hand drives.
