Last summer while vacationing on the Jersey Shore I saw contractors placing a fiberglass cover on porch floors. It looked like a good, durable technique for protecting an exposed porch floor.
My attempts to find a supplier for the material or information on the process have been in vain.
Anyone know of a supplier for the materials and information?

Bob, I have seen the same thing on the Outer Banks of N.C. and think it could be a good detail. Try Jamestown Distributers for all things fiberglass, epoxy and marine related. The best way to educate oneself regarding fiberglass work would probably be to read a fg boatbuilding book. If you are looking for maximum durability I would recomend West Systems epoxy. There are several free publications availible from the Goudgen Bros that will inform you on tequniques involving Epoxy. Good Luck Jay
hey bob,
im writing this from the outer banks of nc. i am a newbie building contractor but i have been a carp on Ocracoke for near about 17 years and mt old boss used some of these fiberglass coverings in the late 80's early 90's, and within the last 6 or so years i have been back to try to repair these decks. the truth of the matter is they just dont hold up here. they did work very well in the begining. but the buildings here see so much wind and weather and most of our buildings are on pilings and the subdeck is generally plywood which does move around a bit and the fiberglass doesnt really move woth the wood so you see nails pops and nails rusting through and creating leaks. i have gone to another product called "duradek" or "weatherdeck" which is a sheet product that will move along with the wood.
so i really dont recommend fiberglass for decking especially over living space.maybe some else as had a better track record. and maybe they will respond as i am curious how fiberglass has held up along the rest of the beach.tyke
Just another day in paradise
I have installed a few fibreglass decks and do recommend them.....
like them better then dura deck type coverings as the fiber-glass IMO
is more durable/repairable and looks better....
should be able to find a dealer in the yellow pages under "fibreglass"
or "plastics".....
vinyl deck covering has a max warranty of 7 years(I think)....
fibreglass will do that easy, and with good maintenance I would think
20 yrs easy...
I have install it over living space also...regards
