Fiberglass Duct Board appears to be a good substitute for metallic and flex ducting. Near zero air leakage, light weight, ease of fabrication etc..
Any comments ?

Fred, thanks for the reply. One fg duct board product has a acrylic coating applied to the interior surface. That should eliminate wandering fg fibers ?
*
TGD,
I have heard that some of the fboard makers are trying to encapsulate the fibers....If that is possible I would love the product...What companies do you think are doing this???
Thanks, near the stream,
J

Jack,
I'm not sure what you mean by incapsulating but the Owens Corning acrylic coating appears to be a spray on coating applied near the end of the manufacturing process. This coating appears (color) to penetrate 3/8 in into the 1 in board bonding the fibers to each other.
Other manufactures ? I'm checking JM and others.
Thanks for the comment.

Tim,
thanks for info as I am very interested in a safe and properly performing form of this product.

*The long term containment of the fibers is my biggest worry. I try to keep all of my ductwork inside of the conditioned space and I usually use round metal ducts.
*fg duct board is to a heating system as vinyl siding is to exterior finish. Sure it's fast, sure it's cheap, sure it's quiet and sure it's junk.It traps household oders and stinks all summer long if you don't run air conditioning. I hate to think what's growing on that stuff. Very few fabricators make it in a workmanlike manner. I've seen them screew parts into it. "mmm it's shinny like metal, it ought to hold this." The tape doesn't hold up well in crawl spaces. You usually get what you pay for in this life, so don't pay for respiration problems for you and your family. Use metal duct, have a good mechanic make and install it and have it well insulated. Then enjoy the cool and warm without worry.
