I am considering using a fiberglass door (Pease) on a new construction house. Haven’t used one before and can’t seem to find much information about their history. Have any of you had any experience with them (good or bad). Owner wants a metal clad wood door, but they don’t seem to exist, so this seems to be the next best thing while still having the look of wood on the inside.
Do they expand/contract much? The entry of the house will face north.
Thanks,
Matt Campbell

Shrinking and swelling are minimal in a fiberglass doors. For the wood look, use the manufacturers instructions which will probably be gel stain followed by polyurathane interior and spar urathane exterior. I've had pretty good luck with Peachtree and Therma-Tru fiberglass. Recently had glazing problem with Therma-Tru (unrelated to fiberglass) and they replaced it after 8 yrs. service at no charge. I don't think they look all that much like wood, but they don't have all the problems of wood.
*Matt:Not sure if you are asking about fiberglass doors or the Peace brand specifically? I will assume both...One thing to note is that fiberglass doors can still warp. Therma-Tru doors are very popular in this area. I was surprised a few weeks ago when a Therma-Tru dealer told me that Therma-Tru would not replace, under warranty, a warped fiberglass door that was painted black. He also warned against installing a dark painted fiberglass door behind a glass storm door with a southern or western exposure.Even still, I think fiberglass is the best option - a relatively good R-value, more stable than wood, and won't dent like steel. Here is an Ask the Builder article about fiberglass doors:http://www.askthebuilder.com/cgi-bin/column?264
