Framing the floor inside a crawlspace foundation keeps a gable-end addition close to grade.

Aristotle
*Um, OK, I'll get my head bitten off. I didn't learn from the last hip thread. :) If the angle of the hip is 45° then wouldn't half the span be 6' (going from the shorter span)? This would leave a 3' ridge with a center line located at 6' (run) from any wall plate. If Joe drew two additional 45° lines from the other corners, you'd see where they'd cross, giving wou your ridge line: Note these are 'pure' math numbers, not allowing for thickness of materials, cutting, etc...Or did I misunderstand the original question?
*Pita...I'm with you....Joe's lots his fricken mind!near the stream,aj

*Ah, OK. Amazing how a different view changes things...(But, what'd the shed ever do that it needed to be attacked? ;) )

*Joe,You shouldn't admit defeat so easily.A case could be made in support of your drawing. It is a hip roof with a gable end, a very common FEATURE of the "hip roofs" we frame. If it goes to the Supreme Stooge Court for a vote, I predict that you come out with the descision, 2-1, with Shemp abstaining.

*Four Stooges holding Kangaroo Court. Ya gotta love it.
*Whooo whooo whoooo, nyuk, nyuk nyukJoe, ya didn't get your butt whupped, and I'm disappointed. Not because your butt ain't red, but because you forgot to insult Aj!Please Joe, throw away that angermgmt link. It ain't fun no more!Baaaaaaa! Baaaaaa!Okay, now lets confuse the hell out of Barry:Barry, your shed will look nice with a wide 24" overhang on the front, and some tidy 6" overhangs on the side. To save materials and keep costs down, I'm recomending that you go with out any overhang in the rear (nobody sees it anyways.) It's a 4/12 given. How high is the 2x8 ridge, assuming that you have a four inch heel on the sides? I'm asking about actual ridge height, not theoretical. What is the front heel? rear heel? front common? sidecommon? length of ridge? If you get one answer wrong, YOU ARE A BOZO!Length of hip?Oh yeah since the shed is 12 x 15, I'm assuming the 12 is the front. How tall should the walls be to look good using the flubbernutty numbers?Remember Joe, (with his floating ridge and almost close to the pitch numbers): ONE WRONG ANSWER AND YOU ARE A BOZO!We'll let Mr Math check our figures.I'm heading to get my dual power (muddy) calculator now...curley
*Agreed, at the moment I will abstain. HOWEVER,should a critical vote be needed, I will be there.Shemp

*Don't tell him to quote himself Aj! He's gonna drive his wife nuts!I will admit to quoting him though. I've been putting seminars on using his method of the floating ridge and goofy rise roof framing. I figure that if I can get the competition to use his method, I'll easily float into retirement with healthy profits because prices will be artificially high!I'm sending everyone to Joe's site!blue
*Curly,That last post should earn you a second membership into the Club.Moe
*I was hopeing for a hall of fame nomination Ken.I'm really concerned about Joe's grandma if he read's my post. I'm sure he will whack her around a few times to get out some of his frustration.Maybe I better delete it before he gets here?blue

*Joe, thank you for the kind words. I've never been called a Master Butcher before, and I'm damn proud to hear those words. Actually, I hope you mean't Master Wood Butcher. I know some rough carpenters would be ashamed th hear that title, but I will wear it proudly. Now, I thought you might like to hear about my latest timesaving idea. I actually laughed out loud when i thought about it, and laughed even harded when I did it. It should give you some additional fuel for your derogatory comments. I sure hope so anyways. Here it is: I was finishing the shingling on the Huron House. I'm using dimenional (Certainteed 25 yr asphalt) shingles. You know, they don't have the key ways and have multiple layers that give the roof "texture" . They also have black shadow lines that attempt to give the roof an appearance of more depth from "thick" shakes. So anyways, I'm laying an cutting, just like I normally do (crooked and wavy) and then I got to an end and needed to trim 3" off . Sow what does a true boogerer do? I'm thinking "Why don't I just lap it"?I laughed, and then I LAPPED IT! It looked perfect, giving that section a little more "oomph". Then I laughed again as I thought about how many guys in here would faint at the idea.Anyways, to make a long story longer, I continued lapping all the rest of my cuts and am very pleased with my results. I might not ever cut a shingle again! Now, my question to you, my all knowing friend is this: Will this increase the longevity of my roof since some of the areas are thicker? I'll have to check with Sonny to find out how much more I need to charge for this obviously superior roof!blue

*blue.... you lapped it...around here it's called a ((dutch lap))and you can get away with it with the type you were laying......hell you can get away with it with most homewoners...sometimes , though, it looks like shit , and then you wish you hadn't done it....cause every time you look up... there it is...
*Bummer Mike. I thought I was getting away with something. So it actully has a name?I took a good look at it and couldn't tell that it was lapped. Often on my next course, i'd have a hard time spotting the joint, without a serious effort. I just wished I'd have thought about doing this about 50 squares ago!blue
*next time you see steve hazlet post ... ask him about it... bet they call it something there too ...
*No, Mike, you ask him. I'm afraid he'd go beserk and call me a bad name.blue
*r we talkin about the same mild-mannered steve hazlett ?...ok .. i will.. but if you see him first .. ask him and use my name...joe fusco
*Good idea Mike. If I can only figure out how to make a big logo...By the way, Joe is calling me bad names over there in the everlasting hip roof thread. I'm eleveated to master hack or soemthing...blue
