We used wide plank (3/4 x 6) douglas fir boards to floor our ski cabin in the Rockies. We wanted the fir to go with fir timbers but knew that we would have problems with cracking which we have had. The floor has been down for almost two years now and has pretty much stabilized. The cabin is in the eastern slopes of the Rockies and experiences big swings in both temperature and humidity although it is a generally low humidity climate. We did not put in humidity controls in our furnace system so we expect to be at the mercy of the climate. We would like to fill the cracks now and would like to hear any ideas from the forums. I would like to use a filler with some elastic properties that will afford some give with humidity changes in the cabin. Any ideas and related experiences would be much appreciated. Thanks in advance for any contributions.

Ken, I'm sure I've seen this discusion before. Haven't been able to find the thread but some good ideas came out of it for fillers. I quite often use the last sanding dust and mix it with the poly or crystal into a paste then fill and finish.
You could call the Bruce hardwood floor Tech. Information line at 1(800) 722-4647. even though your flooring is not a brand such as the pre-finished. Bruce has a complete line in numerous shades of acrylic filler. They can also help you locate a dealer near you.
