I hope the painter can make this look OK. I had to explain to him that pre-finishing stair rail fittings is not the best idea.

I hate it when the railing comes in prefinished.
I've seen guys leave the ridges using the excuse that "the rail is already finished." Nothing worse and eventually the rail will be hand polished down to eliminate those very ridges that they didnt want to sand out.

There was a curved handrail I installed in a bowed foyer not too long ago that the painter prefinished. I was pizzed when I saw he had done that. The night after I installed, he came behind to touch up the sanded spots, and to my relief, they blended in quite well.
This painter wasn't exactly top shelf, but not too bad, either. He thought he was hot.
