He found it. Hooked an electric fence transformer to it. It started crackling right at the break.
Pretty ingenius I think.

How do you mean "crackling"? In the ground, you could here it?
Forrest
I wasn't there. He told me about it on the phone. I believe crackling sound is the way he described it.

First he puts on the collar.
Then he tries to cross the invisible fence.
When he doesn't get shocked trying to cross it, he's found the break.
Whattayamean he won't put on the collar to find out ?
He puts the collar on the dog, doesn't he ?
Um - Who said the fence is for his dog?
ROFLMAOGood point.I concede the assumption.
Yeh... That'll work.
I bet his buddy doesn't even own a dog.
I bet it's not "his buddy's " fence....
.
I am not wearing any Pants....
10-15 years ago, I had a regular customer who had one of those fences installed.
Several months after it was in, I was doing some work for them, and I asked how it was working. The mom told me that her 3 kids decided that they needed to test it out, so they all took a turn wearing the collar and running thru the fence.
Of course, they did it when mom and dad weren't around.
I think the youngest tried it first, and and they worked their way up in age.
They all said it HURT, and only did it one time.
Mom was still shaking her head while I was being told this story.
Most collars emmit a beeping noise as they get closer to the fence "teaching" the dog where it is so they lean that the beep=shock. if you just carry the collar around you should be able to hear it shouldn't you. Some use high pitch beeps that are only audible by dogs, but I know my buddy had one you could hear if you were right next to the dog.
That or let the dog out and see where he breaks through, obviously that would be the spot. Just make sure you have someone else ready to catch him if he's a flight risk.
Jimmy W.
That was my first thought too, but then I realized that the entire "fence" carries a signal to activate the collar. If there's a break in the fence, there won't be a complete circuit and therefore, no signal anywhere.
At least, that's how I assume it works, but I'm happy to be corrected.
Doh, haha, I don't know why I didn't think of that. Jumping too fast to my first thought I guess. Yeah, that would make complete sense that the entire circuit would go down. I guess you're in a bit of trouble then. Maybe connect it to a higher current and find a "guinea pig" to walk the line till they feel that nice warming sensation in thier feet? Just kidding of course.Jimmy W.
I agree with Don. I think the circuit needs to be closed.

<a break in an invisible fence . . .>
Whoa there!
That question brings up a whole RAFT of interesting philosophical paradoxes.
Best one might be, "What are the characteristics of an interruption in something that's not there?" Is a break in nothing "something", or "less than nothing"?
I'm thinkin' black holes.
Send around someone you don't like; when he suddenly elongates, mass becoming infinite just before he disappears, there's the bad spot.
Forrest - happy to help

That looks cool. He wants to find it tonight or tommorow. I'm gonna loan him my toner and see if that works. I don't think it will.
I'm going to get one of those though when I put my invisible fence in my new place.

portable fm radio set to the end of the scale, no program, walk the line, static will cease when you get to the break
