Somethings wrong here...you can file a million dollar lawsuit over frivilious crap, but the tilt-wall contractor gets a $5,600 fine for removing braces early, leaving the wall unsupported. And it took the govt 6 months to investigate.
Do it right, or do it twice.
Doesnt seem like the fine would hardly cover the 6 month investigation cost, but I imagine Home Depot and all the companies working on the construction of the building will find themshelves in court over the deal and probably loose quite a bit
That's not even a slap on the wrist. I could get fined that much for taking the guard off of my chopsaw.
Who's in charge here?
These guys died !
Granted a large fine won't bring them back. What about the families? will they be taken care of?

I really don't think this should surprise anyone. Business, particularly large one are seen, by both the right wing and the present administration, as constructive and blameless in all things. Never mind that the central driving force of all business is profit and indirectly greed.
Greed isn't necessarily a bad thing. A greedy mule, hungry for the carrot at the end of the stick, can be harnessed to plow a field. A valuable service to humanity. The confusion comes when people think the primary function and desire of the mule is to plow the field and further jump to the conclusion that the mule is, inherently and generally, good and must be supported in all things. Acting as if you could leave all the gates open, the mule unharnessed and the plow unattached and still expect the fields to get plowed.
So if the mule flattens your corn field, chews the door posts on your house or, in this case, kills their workers it is just one of the costs of having an ill disciplined and poorly controlled mule. You wouldn't want to discomfort the mule with fences, rules or regulations. And well. The loss of a few workers isn't too much to pay for a happy mule. It's not like we can't import more working class slobs from Mexico. Its not like it was the CEO or any rich folks that got killed. What's is the problem?
Somewhere in the distance a mule and investment banker are heard laughing so hard they wet themselves.
notice in reading the article...no mention of OSHA ... just state... Federal OSHA has been pretty much gutted... send a copy to your congressman & senator..
as short a time ago as the mid-90's , every contractor i knew was looking over their sholder , trying to make sure they were in compliance with OSHA safety regs...not no more ...Mike Smith Rhode Island : Design / Build / Repair / Restore
