Finish for Pine Floors

I just laid a yellow pine floor in my master bedroom and I don’t know what to use to finish it. Oil based or water based polyurethane? How many coats (I have two big dogs)? What do I need to do?

    What do you need to do? Keep the dogs' toenails very well trimmed.
